Ironclad Coffee Roasters: “Specialty Grade” A+

An “ironclad” promise to provide delicious coffee and community impact

Ryan O’Rourke, founder of Ironclad Coffee Roasters, opened Richmond’s specialty grade coffee shop earlier this year.  In addition to providing a unique coffee experience to customers, he also gathers locals together for breakfast and a cause each month. He started #LoveRVA mornings to support the Richmond SPCA and Richmond educational initiatives. On Thursday, October 27th, from 7:30-10:30am,  he will team up with Kathryn Starke, a Richmond native and urban literacy specialist, to #TackleReading

Tackle Reading is a resource created to improve urban literacy education. Over 45 literacy experts, authors, NFL players, celebrities, and educational foundations collaborated to create a book complete with lessons, reading activities, and inspirational stories.  Thousands of Tackle Reading books will be donated to inner-city elementary schools nationwide. Ironclad Coffee Roasters will use the money raised on October 27th to donate Tackle Reading books to Richmond Public Schools.

Starke will kick off a Tackle Reading tour that will provide professional development opportunities, literacy coaching, and speaking engagements to elementary schools across the country. She has over a decade’s worth of experience coaching and training urban elementary teachers and administrators in reading instruction. Starke has a successful track record of helping failing schools achieve full accreditation within one year.
